BSGP Updated Criteria for Assessment

Phoenix 2002 Circular Economy Association is a Bulgarian non-profit organization for public benefit, with the main goal of cooperating with local authorities and the government on issues affecting the environment. The BSGP certification for hotels and lodging places was created by the Association in 2022 in implementation of a Project, financed by the European Union, through the European Fund for Regional development and by Operational Program “Environment 2014-2020” Bulgaria.

On September 27, 2026, Directive (EU) 2024/825, titled the “Directive on empowering consumers for the green transition” (EmpCo), will enter into force across the EU.

What does this mean for BSGP?
BSGP continues to operate as a “Layer 2 issue-level” certification focused on waste reduction.
“Layer 2 issue-level certification” refers to a targeted verification process that substantiates a specific, detailed claim, rather than certifying an entire facility or property.
